Pauley, NBC Discussing Talk Show

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Jane Pauley might not be away from TV that long after all.

The longtime NBC newswoman, who left the network in May after 27 years in various posts -- most recently as co-anchor of "Dateline NBC" -- is considering a syndicated daytime talk show with her former employer.

When Pauley announced her departure from NBC, she said she would probably return to television at some point. The talk-show discussions are being held with NBC Enterprises, the network's syndication division, and such a show would likely air on NBC-owned stations in the country's biggest markets.

Pauley has been in the daytime arena previously -- she anchored the "Today" show for 13 years. Syndication can be a trickier proposition, however, as multiple talk shows jockey for plum timeslots during the day.

Sources tell USA Today that NBC might make an announcement this summer about a talk show fronted by a "major personality." Pauley would fit that description. If Pauley and NBC Enterprises do work out an agreement, her show wouldn't be on the air before fall 2004.

Pauley Finalizes Talk-Show Deal

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Jane Pauley is headed back to daytime television, the place where her network career took off.

Pauley, 52, has signed on to host a syndicated daytime talk show set to launch in fall 2004. "The Jane Pauley Show" will be produced by NBC Enterprises, the syndication division of NBC.

The show continues Pauley's career-long relationship with NBC, where she worked from 1975 until her retirement as co-anchor of "Dateline" earlier this year.

"When I decided to leave NBC News and 'Dateline NBC,' I honestly did not know where the road would take me," Pauley says. "While a daytime talk show is a dramatic departure for me, I'm thrilled that the second phase of my career begins at NBC where the first left off. It's a new world for me in a place that looks pretty much like home."

The show's format and other details have yet to be worked out.
