High School Drama Comes to WAM! With the Acquisition of 'Edgemont'

WAM! Premieres Half-Hour Teen Soap

'Smallville's' Kristin Kreuk Stars in Series

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- WAM! has acquired fifty-seven episodes of the critically acclaimed Canadian teen drama series "Edgemont." Savvy, bittersweet and laced with humor, the series follows the lives of a compelling, and sometimes quirky, group of teens as they grapple with the trials and exhilarations of coming-of-age. Fifty-seven half-hour episodes of "Edgemont" will premiere on WAM! starting in June 2005.

"'Edgemont' features strong character development," said Midge Pierce, vice president WAM! programming. "Our teen audience will see themselves and their friends in this show that draws from actual teen experiences."

"'Edgemont' is a teen show that really connects with its viewers," said Kate Sanagan, director of North American sales for Picture Box Distribution Inc. "It has a very strong fan following in Canada and in the other countries where it is shown, and we are confident it will find additional success in the United States on WAM!."

"Edgemont" captures the universal challenges and triumphs of coming of age. At the core of the series are Mark (Dominic Zamprogna) and Jennifer (Sarah Lind), next-door neighbors and best-friends whose relationship is destroyed by Mark's fascination with Laurel (Kristin Kreuk), the urban newcomer from the east. Within the diverse cast there is a character for everyone to root for, laugh with, bond with, sometimes cry with and most of all look forward to hanging out with week after week.

Seventeen recently said, "If you love watching shows about teens that are sooo like you, then you're gonna love 'Edgemont.'" Other accolades include, from The Vancouver Sun "poignant and universal -- chock full of compelling storylines, engaging actors and smart, realistic dialogue." The Georgia Straight called "Edgemont" "the best such series since 'My So-Called Life,'" and the Orlando Sentinel said "'Edgemont' is the real deal."

Produced by Omni Film Productions for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), "Edgemont" doesn't shy away from large themes and tough issues, but the stories are drawn from the fabric of everyday life: the complexities of friendship, the rollercoaster ride of romance, the pain of family break-up, the wistful quest for identity and belonging, the D-minus that ruins your life and the smile-across-the-crowded-hallway that makes it suddenly worth living again.
