Sohn OK With HBO's Drug-Dealing Portrayal

Sonja Sohn says it doesn't bother her that the drug-dealing activity in the HBO television series "The Wire" is depicted as taking place in an African-American community. The actress, who plays narcotics detective Shakima Greggs, notes that in some black areas, drug dealing is "a large part in living in that kind of neighborhood," and as an actress, she's "interested in working on projects that project reality."

At the same time, she cautions people shouldn't conclude all black folks live in the projects and deal drugs.

While Sohn was alright with the drug-dealing's setting, she did have some other issues. "I had more of a problem trying to play a cop. I wasn't too interested in that. I wanted to be the female drug kingpin," Sohn told AP Radio.

The new season of "The Wire" began on Sunday, June 1.
