Kimmel Bumped for Oprah in Chicago
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Jimmy Kimmel's talk show is doing OK, but he's no match for Oprah in Chicago.
WLS, the ABC affiliate there, has bumped "Jimmy Kimmel Live" from its post-"Nightline" spot and replaced it with repeats of "The Oprah Winfrey Show." Winfrey's show had long aired in that spot -- 11:05 p.m. CT -- before being moved back to 12:05 a.m. this year to make room for Kimmel's talk show. Emily Barr, president and general manager of WLS-TV, says the switch -- Kimmel's show is moving back an hour -- is a "win-win situation." "Chicago is Oprah's town," Barr tells the Chicago Sun-Times. "She has an extremely loyal audience, many of whom have spent years watching her at 11:05 p.m. We want to give those viewers the opportunity to watch her there again." "Jimmy Kimmel Live" drew a respectable 3.0 rating in Chicago during May sweeps, but "Oprah" reruns averaged a 5.3 in the time period a year ago. Barr says Kimmel has established enough of a fan base that viewers will follow it to the later time. Source: Zap2It.com
