is everyone excited about the new Little house on the prairie series?

I am anxious to view the new series based on LHOTP. I will try to view with an open mind. How is everyone feeling about this new series airing on March 26th.

CountryGrlSwt16 02-21-2005 06:02 PM

I'm a little nervous and excited at the same time. Part of me is nervous that enough people won't watch it for it to become a tv show in the fall, but then again think of how many people watched and still watch the show! You just have to spread the word!

I'm also a little nervous about the actors. I think that Melissa Gilbert as Laura, Michael Landon as Charles, and Dean Butler as Almanzo were about as good as it went. Also, we wouldn't get to see characters like Albert and Adam, and it wouldn't show as much of the Oleson's either.

The other part of me is excited because it's supposed to stay true to the books, but then we've heard this a million times with movies and the first show. If you've read the books, then you know how awesome The Long Winter, or the drive from school with Almanzo that one time would be on tv.

I've been telling all of my friends at school to watch it, and so far about 5 have agreed.

I am very excited for the new series! I'm am also very glad that it will be written true to the books because the books are so amazing and I loved reading them as a young girl and having them as apart of my childhood. I hope enough people watch the show because I think it would be great if this movie could turn into a new t.v. series.

PrairieDaze 02-21-2005 09:22 PM

I have mixed feeling about this movie.

I am happy that Little House will be new again and that this generation may be warped into a Little House craze. And maybe the books will become more popular again. Also, it will be interesting to see them follow the books more accuratly.

However, I do not think anything can compare to the original show. The actors were great and I loved the set. (Even though the real prairie had less mountains and trees). It was less realistic of the times and much ficiton was added in, but the storylines and so many other things were great.

I don't know what to think.

I agree about the new show not being able to compare to the original. Everything about it was wonderful, from the acting to the storylines (even if it was a lot of fiction). It was a great show and I hope this new show will be as wonderful as the original.

the new LHOTP series

I am so glad that fellow LHOTP fans responded to my inquiry about the new series. As I mentioned before, I will view it with an open mind (crossed fingers) and make my decision then of watching it or not. What am I saying? I will watch it regardless because I love anything that has to do with Little House. I am looking forward for the movie to be based on the books, but I'm afraid to compare Melissa gilbert to the new actress, and so on. My question is if it does garner good ratings, and it does become a series, I wonder how much fiction would be applied?

In other words, would they come up with great storylines as the original did? Would they eventually incorporate an albert, adam, jonathan and andy?

I wonder if anybody from the original cast would view it? and what will be their opinion of it?

prairie girl 02-22-2005 10:23 AM

wont watch it

There is only *one little house on the prairie*and always will be,I wont watch it if we ever get it in the uk.

the new little house series

this message is for prairie girl.
I agree with you about that there is only one "Little house on the Prairie." I am so happy that this show is seen in so many parts of the world. I can't belive that you are from the UK. I am curious? is the show still airing over there? if it is, what was the last episode you saw?

As I said before, I will try to view it with an open mind, and make my decision from there. As far as you not wanting to view the new show if it is broadcasted in the Uk, I say to you, try to see it. It just might surprise you. Tell you what, the new show should air on March 26th here in the US. I can write to you and tell you what my opinion is. If you like?

lilhousefan 02-22-2005 11:30 AM

On what network will it be airing in the US?
Callie

prairie girl 02-22-2005 11:41 AM

It last aired in the uk about 2 years ago,I am not sure about the last episode i saw,but nellie had her own restaurant, and caroline was helping out there,I have just bought season 1 on dvd,and intend on getting every other season aswell,I would be interested to hear what you think about*the new series*,but have no intention of watching it myself.

katmandu6 02-22-2005 11:53 AM

new show

This message is for Callie or lilhousefan.

The new show, from my understanding, will be airing in the US on Saturday March 26 on ABC. I will be looking to see if this changes. Callie, If you happen to see it, lets communicate about it the next day. I will be anxious to know everyone's opinion of it. I really do hope I at the very least like it.

katmandu6 02-22-2005 11:59 AM

It gets better and worse at the same time

this message is for Prairie girl.
Thanks for responding to me. I respect your decision on not wanting to view the new series. I cannot say I do not agree with you, as well as many other Little house fans would. It is very hard to accept a new version of the show.
And yes, I would love to tell you my opinion about the new show.

As far as the last episode you saw is concerned, after this episode with Nellie's resturant and Ma Ingalls working there, the episodes that follow are great because we are introduced to Laura as a married woman and her life with almonzo. But I also have to tell you, that some other episodes are not that good. In my opinion. Yet I still loved this show.

lilhousefan 02-22-2005 12:01 PM

Thanks for the info. I'll keep my eyes open :)

Personally, I am looking forward to the new series!
True, nothing will ever top the beloved series that has brought us all together on this message board.
But, it's like a movie remake. Sometimes the remake is good.... ("An Affair to Remember", with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr was a remake!) ....and sometimes it doesn't live up to the original.
I plan to view the new series, with an open mind, and try to remember that the Little House Books are what started it all!

katmandu6 02-22-2005 02:29 PM

the new season

This messaage is for scissortail93.

You are undoubtedly right about some remakes are very, very good. I like the re-make of Pride and Predjudice with Elizabeth Ehle and Colin Firth. I will watch the series with an open mind as well.

You do realize that once it airs this forum will be bombarded with people's opinons, dislikes, likes, etc.

I can't wait to talk to everyone about it. I however have not read nor remember all the books. I think I should re-read them soon.

Yes, I'm sure of that! I'm saving my opinion, though, until I've seen it. :)

ILoveAlmonzo 02-22-2005 07:48 PM

I can't watch it, it's just not the same. I do love the stories written by Laura Ingalls Wilder, but......it's just not the same. (especially without Dean Butler, lol)

Peace

I'm excited about the new series, but it will not be true to the books if there's no Carrie. Wasn't Carrie only 2 or 3 years younger than Laura?

smurf2005 02-23-2005 05:29 PM

Yes, Carrie was only 3 years younger than Laura. I wonder why she isn't going to be in the new series.

CountryGrlSwt16 02-23-2005 07:27 PM

Maybe she is, but she just wasn't on the set when they made the pictures? I know it isn't going to be true to the books already because of the ages. They've already made them older like they did on the original show. Laura and Mary were, what, 3 and 5 or 4 and 6 during the Little House on the Prairie book.

I looked at the list of the cast and I didn't see anyone playing Carrie. So who knows if she is going to be on it or not.

Gingerbread 02-27-2005 03:07 AM

Cant wait

I personally cant wait for the new show. My whole family watches the DVD sets over and over of the original show and wait impatiently for the next season to be released. I will always love the original but cant wait to see if they really stick to the books. It would be fantastic to have it told that way as well. :woohoo:

CountryGrlSwt16 02-27-2005 11:32 AM

Well, maybe they didn't put her name since she'd just be a little baby. Or maybe they aren't just going by the books, maybe they've been doing research since Carrie was born during that time.

Fused0ne 02-28-2005 02:45 AM

(hmm didnt let me post first try, lets try again)

I read in the interviews on prairiefans.com with the new Laura, that no, Carri will not be in the mini series. She will be added if it gets to be a new series. But no Carrie for now.

Thanks for the reply Fused0ne! I was wondering if Carrie was going to be in the new series or what the deal was.

elhia 02-28-2005 07:09 PM

I prefer the old one. I can't watch the new series. From a kid I love Michael Landon, Melissa Gilbert, Melissa Sue Anderson etc I don't know if I can watch my fav series with another actors and actresses. Is a strange feeling!

Fused0ne 02-28-2005 11:53 PM

Well there's no word on if it will be a new series or not, all depends on the ratings.

I know nothing can beat the original, BUT as Ive been without a channel to watch, I'm desperate for any LHOTP show. Bad enough Im in ANGEL withdrawel, I've been in LHOTP withdrawel ever since my station stopped airing it.

katmandu6 03-01-2005 01:09 PM

re: new series

I think we are all in agreement with the fact the nothing would top or come close to the original series. But since I love everything that has to do with the books and those pioneer days, I will watch it.

I will base my opinion on the first two episodes. I don't know, we just have to wait. I hope that it attracts new fans from everywhere, and maybe perhaps turn it into a weekly series. My only question is, if it does turns into a weekly series, I wonder what kind of storylines would they come up with? Will they incorporate Mary's blindness into the storyline and stay true to the books, and not have her Marry? Would we feel disappointed if they don't marry Mary off to someone named Adam Kendall?

I think they should just do the miniseries and not create a weekly series. I would be the first to yell out "hey, where is adam? where is Hester terhune?

Fused0ne 03-01-2005 03:52 PM

Well Mary is a little girl at the moment, no telling IF it will go to series, and IF it would last long enough to be in a position to marry Mary off. But lets say it gets to that point. And we see her married off to someone not named Adam. We as the viewers can have a little laugh at it, with a remark..."oooh I'm telling Adam!"

Heh.

katmandu6 03-03-2005 03:06 PM

new series

You are right. It would be interesting to see if the special does become a series (I hope crossed fingers) it would be weird and great to see what kind of long-term storyline they come up with. I am and will always be a fan thu and thru no matter what.

suuzluvsprairie 03-09-2005 02:11 PM

I am very excited!!
I was hoping for a movie based on the books perhapes to move to a series!!! :)
I watched LHOTP when I was a kid ..now that I am 38 and have 2 little girls I am hoping that this will be a wonderful beginning for them too!
